India-born Canadian MP address Parliament in his mother-tongue Kannada, wins internet [WATCH]

The video has now gone crazy viral on social media with Netizens lauding and congratulating him for taking pride in his roots

New Delhi: For the first time in world history, a parliament outside India was addressed in the Indian language Kannada.

India-born Canadian MP Chandra Arya, who represents the electoral district of Nepean in the House of Commons, spoke in his mother tongue Kannada in the parliament on Thursday.

The video of Arya has now gone crazy viral on social media with Netizens lauding and congratulating him for taking pride in his roots.

“This is the first time Kannada is spoken in any parliament in the world outside of India,” Arya said.

Tweeting the video clip of himself addressing the parliament house in Kannada, Arya wrote, “I spoke in my mother tongue (first language) Kannada in Canadian parliament. This beautiful language has long history and is spoken by about 50 million people. This is the first time Kannada is spoken in any parliament in the world outside of India.”

For the unknown, Chandra Arya is a native from Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, and holds a degree in engineering from Ramanagara as well as a master’s in Business Administration from Dharwad in his home state.
