New Delhi: Every year on July 12th, people throughout the world commemorate International Malala Day in recognition of Malala Yousafzai and her courageous stand for education. She is a Pakistani lady who works to raise awareness and funds for the cause of educating females. She also holds the record for being the youngest Nobel laureate.

To commemorate Malala Yousafzai’s ten-year milestone, International Malala Day will be held again today, where people all around the globe commemorate this day celebrating the importance of girls’ and women’s education. In 2013, one year after Malala was shot by the Taliban, the inaugural Malala Day was held. In 2015, the United Nations established July 12 as Malala Day in her honour.

On July 11, 2023, Malala tweeted, “It’s hard to believe tomorrow is my 26th birthday – ten years since I spoke at the United Nations. 16-year-old me had no idea what would happen next, the amazing people she would meet, the places she would go. She was just determined to continue her fight for girls’ education”.

Significance

Malala Day is significant because it draws attention to the value of education and the value of women’s rights. The day is a reminder of the power of Malala’s conviction to change the world.
