Though Raouf started wearing makeup from a very early age, she decided to carry a traditional look for the pageant.

New Delhi: Miss England finalist has created history by becoming the first ever beauty queen to appear without makeup in the pageant’s 94 years. Melisa Raouf, who is a political science student from south London qualified for the semi-finals opting for a zero makeup look. She will be now competing in the finals this October for the crown.

While talking to a UK’s Independent newspaper, the 20-year-old model stated, “It means a lot to me as I feel many girls of different ages wear makeup because they feel pressured to do so.”

“If one is happy in their own skin we should not be made to cover up our face with makeup. Our flaws make us who we are and that’s what makes every individual unique,” she added.

Though Raouf started wearing makeup from a very early age, she decided to carry a traditional look for the pageant.

“I never felt I met beauty standards. I have recently accepted that I am beautiful in my own skin and that’s why I decided to compete with no makeup,” she said in the interview.

In May, Raouf posted a selfie on Instagram of a “bare face” round of the competition and wrote, “embracing blemishes and imperfections.”

The organisers of the show stated that Raouf is again planning to go bare-face at the national finals of the pageant, which is scheduled to hold in October.

Moreover, she wishes to embrace other women their natural looks thus walking on the ramp without any cosmetic or beauty products.
