Pakistan: Vandals attack temple in Karachi, destroy idols of Hindu deities; no arrests yet

New Delhi: While Pakistan advocates India on the need for protecting the interests of minorirites, its own record remains in shambles. A group of hooligans again struck a Hindu place of worship in Karachi town on wedensday and destroyed idols of Hindu deities in Karachi. Previously also, Hindu temples have become the target of attack by the Islmaist mob in Pakistan.

In latest incident, the the vandals attacked idols of deites at Shri Mari Maata Mandir in Karachi’s Korangi area, despite the police station being in close vicinity.

The police, when got the information, reached the temple and collected details. However, no arrests have been made yet.

The incident has caused panic and fear in the minds of Hindu commmunity, particularly in Korangi area and police have been deployed to control the situation.

According to reports, about 5-6 came on motorcyle, vandalised the temple and then esccped. Police have lodged case against the unknown suspects.

Many incidents of temple attack in Pakistan

This is not just a one-off incident. Temples have often become the target of mob attack while police and adminsitration have largely remained mute spectator to atrocities.

In October, a historical temple situated at the bank of Indus River was desecrated by unidentified people. Here also, a group of unidentified people barged into the temple premises and vandalised the idols of deities before fleeing. An FIR was lodged at the Kotri police station but no substantial action happened.

In August, dozens of unknown assailants vandalised Hindu temple in Bhong district over a court decision in favour of a minor Hindu boy.

According to official estimates, about 75 Hindus live in Pakistan, with majority of them settled in the Sindh region.
