According to news reports, the American navy is also training and using the abilities of dolphins to strengthen its naval security since 1959.

New Delhi: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is still going on. Ukraine is fighting hard to push Russia back from its territory. Moreover, Ukraine is also posing a big challenge against Russia.

According to reports, Russia’s rocket hit Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, injuring 10 people on Thursday. On the same day, UN chief Antonio Guterres was on a visit to the country.

Russia deploys Dolphins at Sevastopol harbour

Recently, a few reports revealed that Russia is afraid of an attack on its naval base in the Black Sea so it deployed an army of dolphins.  At the entrance of the Sevastopol harbour, Russia has placed two floating dolphin pens.

The value of Sevastopol harbour is very important for the Russian navy in the Black Sea. Since the Soviet era, Russia has been using the base for docking many high-value ships.

The USNI report based on satellite images said that Dolphins were sent to the harbour in February before Russia started the invasion of Ukraine.

US also training dolphins

It is important to note that dolphins use natural sonar for navigating through the ocean. Their natural ability is considered to be very accurate, in finding the difference between a ping-pong ball and a golf ball.

Dolphins reportedly can send alerts during an underwater attack. The report suggested Russia trained to guard the ships and carry out ”counter-diver operations”

According to news reports, the American navy is also training and using the abilities of dolphins to strengthen its naval security since 1959.

It is also reported that the US navy runs a Marine Mammal programme. So far, the US tested several other animals such as rays, sharks, turtles and sea birds.

The American navy currently uses two species for the job that are dolphins and the California sea lion.
