The Kashmir Files banned in Singapore; Here is all you need to know about it.

New Delhi: Bollywood movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been banned in Singapore. It is said that it is “beyond” the city-state’s film classification guidelines.

According to reports, the Singaporean authorities had refused giving any classification. It is said that this film is banned for “its provocative and one-sided portrayal of Muslims and the depictions of Hindus being persecuted in the on-going conflict in Kashmir”.

In India, the Kashmir Files is being screened since March and has received mixed  reactions.

‘The Kashmir Files’,  is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990s from the Muslim-majority Valley due to terrorism.

Also a joint statement has been released in Singapore by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

According to the statement that has been issued, it is said that the film has the potential to cause enmity between different communities, and disturb the social cohesion and religious harmony in the society.

Also, the film classification guidelines says that any material that is denigrating to racial or religious communities in Singapore will be refused classification.

The Kashmir Files is directed by Vivek Agnihotri and Bollywood stars like Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in lead roles.

Also, the film has received applaud by PM Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and several other Union Ministers. The Kashmir Files was declared tax-free in many states.
