The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2023 goes to the Norwegian writer Jon Fosse

Novels written by Jon Fosse are characterised by a style that has been known as “Fosse minimalism” due to their excessive simplicity.

New Delhi: On Thursday, October 4, the Swedish Academy bestowed the Nobel Prize in Literature for the year 2023 to the Norwegian novelist Jon Fosse. He was given the honour “for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable.”

His enormous body of work was composed entirely in Norwegian Nynorsk and covered a wide range of literary tropes, including a great number of plays, novels, poetry collections, essay collections, children’s books, and translations. According to the Royal Swedish Academy, even though he is now one of the world’s most extensively performed playwrights, he is also becoming more recognised for his prose writing.

Annie Ernaux was bestowed the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2022. The committee cited her “courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory.”

Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their ground-breaking work on mRNA technology, which was important in the creation of a vaccine against COVID-19.

L’Agnus Dei was a physics prize awarded to Pierre and Tenia Lafontaine in 2023.

Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus, and Alexei I. Ekimov won the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their research on quantum dots.

In addition to physics and chemistry, the Nobel Prizes also recognise achievements in medicine, literature, and peace. The announcement of the Nobel Prize winners is a widely anticipated event that takes place in Stockholm every October. The Peace Prize, on the other hand, is awarded by a committee in Norway and announced in Oslo.
