UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemns Khalistani extremism, vows cooperation with India

India had lodged a strong protest with the UK following the attack on its High Commission in London. The Delhi Police also registered a First Information Report (FIR) related to a crime committed abroad, and the case was subsequently handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

New Delhi: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who arrived in Delhi for the G20 Summit, expressed strong support for India in combating Khalistani extremism. Sunak affirmed that the United Kingdom is working closely with the Indian government to address the issue of Khalistani extremism and stressed that he would not tolerate violent Khalistani activities in the UK.

The concern over pro-Khalistan elements in the UK has been growing, particularly following the attack on the Indian High Commission in London on March 19. The attack drew widespread condemnation from Indian Americans, who called for immediate action against the perpetrators.

“We are working very closely with the Indian government to particularly tackle ‘PKE’ Pro-Khalistan Extremism. I don’t think it’s right. Our security Minister recently was just in India talking to his counterparts. We have working groups together to share intelligence and information so that we can root out this kind of violent extremism,” Sunak stated in an interview with news agency ANI.
