US Singer who touched PM Modi’s feet thanks him for publicly speaking on women assaulted in Manipur

Taking to her Twitter handle, Mary condemned the inhumane act and emphasized protecting women’s dignity saying, “My heart grieves for the women assaulted in Manipur.”

New Delhi: African-American Singer Mary Miliben, who made headlines last month for touching Prime Minister Modi’s feet during his US visit has recently thanked him for publicly calling out the inhumane behaviour against the women who were assaulted in Manipur.

Taking to her Twitter handle, Mary condemned the inhumane act and emphasized protecting women’s dignity saying, “My heart grieves for the women assaulted in Manipur. Thank you PM Modi for publicly addressing this inhuman behaviour. These women are not only daughters of India, they are children of God. Human dignity matters to us all. I’m praying for these precious women and for swift justice.”

Previously,  Prime Minister Modi spoke about Manipur’s viral video which was also his first-ever statement regarding Manipur violence.

While addressing the media ahead of Parliament’s Monsoon session PM Modi spoke about the incident and said, ” My heart is filled with anger and rage after knowing what happened in Manipur. Acts like these are a disgrace to civilised societies. This incident has ashamed all the Indians. I urge all the chief ministers to take all the necessary steps to ensure women’s safety in their respective provinces.”

Concluding his words, PM assured his countrymen that non of the culprits will be spared or forgiven.

For the uninformed, the nation has been witnessing a massive public outcry ever since a video from Manipur’s B Phainom showing a large mob of 1000+ men assaulting and parading two Kuki women naked has gone viral on social media.

Soon after the video of the assault was made public, police immediately came into action and arrested the leader of the mob (Huirem Herodas Meiti 32) that was responsible for parading the women naked. However, this was the first arrest that was made in relation to the case and a large number of culprits are yet to be nabbed by the police.
