A 37-year-old doctor from Kolkata has decided to stay back and help in the evacuation process of the Indians from the war-torn country.

New Delhi: Amid the crisis arising in Ukraine owing to the Russian invasion, a 37-year-old doctor from Kolkata has decided to stay back and help in the evacuation process of the Indians from the war-torn country. Dr Prithwi Raj Ghosh is a doctor and a student consultant in Ukraine.

In an interview with India Today, Dr Ghosh said, “I am not stuck here in Kyiv, I am not leaving by choice. I have evacuated almost 350 students from Ukraine. They were my students in Kyiv. The other coordinators who left asked me to help more students who are stuck in various parts, especially in Sumy.”

Reportedly, Ghosh said that the ceasefire is for the civilians of the country and not specifically for the students. Besides, in Kharkiv, almost 2,000 students were able to leave the city.

His parents were proud as well as scared of him residing in a worn-torn country. Ghosh’s mother Bratati said that she prays to God daily for the safe return of her son and the students. While Ghosh’s father, Pradip Ghosh was proud, stating that Indian students in Ukraine consider Prithwi as their elder brother.

“The students have no one there. They consider him to be their guardian. How can he leave?” Pradip said.

Meanwhile, Prithwi stated that he is merely doing his duty. “My parents are worried. I understand, but it is my responsibility. I promised the parents that I would take care of the students. I faced the crisis during 2013-2014 when I was a bit younger and had done the same. Now, I am more mature to handle this,” he said.
