New Delhi: In a major setback for residents of the United States, the landmark judgement of US top court in Roe vs Wade case has now been overturned, conditionally taking away the right of those seeking for safe termination of unwanted pregnancies.
Many states across the US have laws providing a limitation to abortions, which can now come in place within 30 days or even immediately.
However, the recent verdict does make abortions illegal across the country as states can regulate laws for the procedure, yet it is expected to affect women in as many as 13 states wherein abortions can be restricted.
The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the 50-year-old judgement has drawn sharp criticism from significant figures including US President Joe Biden who appealed the voters to “cast ballots in favour of pro-abortion candidates during elections this fall”.
