What is Japan’s Sky Mile Tower that is set to surpass Burj Khalifa as tallest skyscraper?

Burj Khalifa is reportedly nearly half a mile but when Sky Mile Tower (about 1 mile tall) gets completed by 2045, the former will get dwarfed by Japan’s skyscraper.

New Delhi: Burj Khalifa in Dubai is currently the highest skyscraper of the world but Japan’s Sky Mile Tower is all set to dethrone it of its tag by 2045.

Japan is building the world’s highest tower and when completed, it will be double the height of Burj Khalifa and almost 5 times higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The tower will house a massive number of 421 floors.

Burj Khalifa is reportedly nearly half a mile but when Sky Mile Tower (about 1 mile tall) gets completed by 2045, the former will get dwarfed by Japan’s skyscraper.

The project is the brainchild of architects at Kohn Pedersen Fox and structural engineering firm Leslie E. Robertson Associates.

What is Next Tokyo 2045 project?

Japan’s vulnerability to seismic activity and natural calamities resulted in the conceiving of this idea. The tall tower will prepare Tokyo to combat violent climate eruptions including Tsunami threat.

The 5,577 feet skyscraper has been envisioned by architects in their vision of Tokyo in 2045. Located in Tokyo Bay, the plan termed Next Tokyo would see the creation of a mini-city in next 20 years.

By when it will be completed & how will it function?

The world’s tallest skyscraper is likely to be erected by 2045 and will be hexagonal in shape to ensure minimum resistance from wind.

The tower will house about 55,000 people and will look like a city of its own.

The building’s design makes it independent of traditional water pump mechanism as water will be directly filtered from the atmosphere & stored in building’s façade.

Many sky lobbies and common areas will facilitate mixing of people. Shopping centres, hotels, gyms & all means of social amenities will be developed inside the complex.

Why the need for tallest skyscraper?

The purpose behind ‘Next Tokyo 2045’ mission is to develop a mega city that is adapted to changing climactic conditions.

The tallest skyscraper will be a powerhouse and will have space for everything ranging from agriculture to residential units to commercial activity. The tower will have gardens for agriculture while also have space earmarked for industrial scale agriculture.

The elevators will be cable and will move in both vertical & horizontal direction.
