New Delhi: Japan’s former PM Shinzo Abe was attacked by an unidentified man while he was delivering a speech in Nara City on Friday.

He was soon rushed to the hospital for the treatment where he is said to be in a critical condition.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 11.30 am.

Abe,  67, collapsed after he was shot and photos of him bleeding was bleeding from the chest was circulated on social media by the local news agencies.

Police said that he was likely shot from behind with a shotgun.

Also, people who were present at the spot said that they heard gun shots going off twice.

According to the reports, the attacker has been identified as Tetsuya Yamagami, a 41-year-old resident of Nara City. The suspect was arrested for shooting Shinzo Abe.

It is said that he is currently being questioned at the Nara Nishi police station about the reason behind attacking Shinzo Abe. Reports also said that it seems that the suspect have made the gun himself.

Also, while the police authorities tried to nab him, the man did not attempt to run away from the crime spot.
