Karva Chauth 2021: Date, Moon Sighting, Fasting Rituals and more; read here

As per the lunisolar calendar, Karwa Chauth falls on the fourth day after ‘Purnima’ in the month of Kartika every year.

New Delhi: The various parts of the country and around the globe just wrapped up the Navrati celebrations this year. With the 9 days dedicated to the feminine power and spirituality, the string of festive season has begun. Next in the row is Karva Chauth, a significant festival mostly celebrated in most of the parts of northern India. However, in Andhra Pradesh, the festival in referred as Atla Tadde.

The festivals falls 10 days after Vijaydashmi or Dussehra ( the celebration of victory of Lord Rama over king Ravana), where married Hindu women consumes a day long fast for the long-life and well-being of their husbands.

# Fast timings: 06:10 am to 08:50 pm

# puja muhurat: 06:03 pm to 07:15 pm

# Moon Sighting timings (expected): 08:50 pm

# Fasting Rituals: On this day, women observe nirjala (without water) fast from dawn to moonrise. However, Sargi (a meal before the fast) is consumed in the early hours before the dawn. Fruits, Dry-fruits and sweet dishes such as sevaiyan and phirni is usually consumed for the Sargi.

Mother-in-laws usually prepares the Sargi Thali for daughter-in-laws. The thali includes food, Saari and other things belonging to the Sringaar (make-up).

Karwa Chauth

After performing puja as per one’s customs in evening, the wait for the sight of moon begins. Women breaks their fast on the sight of the moon with a glass of water along with some dry-fruits or sweets.

Post to the these rituals, women can consume festive delicacies of their choice along with their families.
