Class 12th board exams: CBSE mulling results on basis of past 3 years, if exams cancelled

According to a report, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council For The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) are looking at cancellation of Class 12 exams and adopting this assessment route or may be conducting the exams in a shorter format.

New Delhi: Amid the growing clamour for cancellation of CBSE Class 12 board exams, in the wake of pandemic, various options are being weighed upon by the Boards. One of the proposal calls for assessment of students on the basis of their performance in past 3 years i.e. 9th, 10th & 11th class. The proposal is said to be in initial consultation though and nothing has been firmed up.

According to a report, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council For The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) are looking at cancellation of Class 12 exams and adopting this assessment route or may be conducting the exams in a shorter format.

This comes in wake of various states raising objections to CBSE exams and demanding vaccination before papers. Some are however in favour of truncated exams.

In a related development, CISCE on Saturday asked its affiliated schools to submit the average of marks obtained by Class 12 students in class 11 and in the current session. The move has sparked speculations that CISCE is also looking at the idea of cancelling Class 12 exams and mark the students on the basis of their previous results, a leading daily reported.

Final decision by June 3?

Meanwhile, the decision on CBSE class 12 board exams, which was expected today is set to get delayed. As per the sources, the decision is expected to be announced by June 3, 2021. As for the PIL filed in Supreme Court for cancellation of the exams, the bench would be hearing the case on June 3, 2021. The Apex Court has asked Centre, CBSE, ICSE to give good reason if they decide to conduct the exam.
