Aamir Khan announces collaboration with Sunny Deol for Rajkumar Santoshi’s upcoming film ‘Lahore 1947’

Aamir and Sunny will be joining forces after three decades since the first BO clash between their movies Dil and Ghayal back in 1990

New Delhi: Confirming the ongoing roumers about their collaboration, veteran actors Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol have finally officially announced their joining forces for Rajkumar Santoshi’s upcoming movie Lahore 1947. In the eagerly awaited film, Sunny is expected to play the lead role while Aamir will be in charge of its production under the banner of his own production house AKP.

Notably, this won’t be the first time Sunny will come together with Rajkumar Santoshi as the duo have already worked with each other numerous times and given the film industry three super hit flicks Ghayal, Ghatak and Damini.

Besides Sunny, Santosh has also collaborated with Aamir in his 1994 classic blockbuster Andaz Apna Apna which took the box office by Strom during its days on the big screens and minted Rs 8.68 crores at the ticket windows. Now, the actor is finally reuniting with Santosh after three decades however this time he will be stepping into the shoes of a producer.

Speaking about his reunion with Santosh, the Laal Singh Chaddha actor wrote, “I, and the entire team at AKP, are most excited and happy to announce our next, starring Sunny Deol, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, titled Lahore, 1947. We look forward to collaborating with the immensely talented Sunny and one of my favourite directors, Raj Santoshi. The journey we have embarked on promises to be the most enriching.”

Sunny and Aamir’s Box office clashes

Notably, Aamir and Sunny will be joining forces after three decades since the first BO clash between their movies Dil and Ghayal back in 1990. Following that, Aamir faced Sunny at the box office for the second time when his movie Raja Hindustani went head-on with Sunny’s Ghatak by opening on the same day at the BO in 1996.

Finally, in 2001, Indian cinema witnessed one of its most memorable showdowns when Aamir’s eagerly anticipated movie Lagaan locked horns with Sunny’s super hit Gadar: Ek prem Katha. Although both movies were loved and appreciated by the fans, Sunny Deol won the final battle against Aamir as Gadar effortlessly outshined Laagan in terms of collection and established its Supremacy at the Box office.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Sunny Deol is currently busy enjoying the massive success of his recently released actioner Gadar 2 which has earned over ₹690 crore at the global box office so far. Following its monumental theatrical run, the actioner is now gearing up for its OTT debut on digital platform Zee5 by the end of this week.

Speaking of Aamir, the megastar made his awaited comeback to the big screens after 4years with Adviat Chandan’s Laal Singh Chadha which made it to the theatres on 11 August 2022. However, the Indian version of the super hit American movie Forest Grump was unable to impress the audience in the cinemas and soon nosedived at the box office after its initial shows.
