After Aamir and Akshay, Alia Bhatt on netizens’ target, calls for boycott follows

A day before its release on Netflix, #BoycottAliaBhatt made its way to the top trends on the microblogging site Twitter

New Delhi: Alia Bhatt’s upcoming OTT venture ‘Darlings’ is set to stream on digital giant Netflix this weekend, and the actress is busy promoting it on every possible platform or event.

The trailer of the dark comedy, which also features Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew created a major buzz amongst the Hindi audience after the creators dropped the trailer of the film on social media earlier in July.

Bhatt plays the character of a strong head woman named Badrunissa Shaikh aka Badru, who happens to be a victim of domestic abuse, and is set for revenge that is dark and twisted.

A day before its release on Netflix, #BoycottAliaBhatt made its way to the top trends on the microblogging site Twitter, with netizens calling for the boycott of Bhatt and her film. The reason?

Twitteratis argue that Bhatt is justifying and promoting violence against men through her film ‘Darlings’, a project wherein is also a producer apart from Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma.

In the recently released trailer, the characters of Bhatt and Shah can be seen abducting and brutally torturing Badru’s husband. While one of the scenes that the internet seemed highly offended was depicted in the teaser, where Badru ties her husband up to a chair and hits her on the head with a pan.
