New Delhi: Gulzar, the renowned lyricist and a poet, turned 86 on Tuesday. The man of many talents, exudes brilliance even at this age and continues to have strong connect with new generation.
He is a Padma Bhushan awardee and has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Sahitya Akademi Award.
The man who began his journey with Mera Gora Rang Lei Le (Bandini, 1963) continues to charm generation after generation with his brilliance almost 6 decades later.
Many celebrities of the tinsel town took to social media to congratulate and extend warm wishes to the master lyricist, we know. Music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan extended birthday greetings to the legendary lyricist and poet Gulzar.

Mahadevan who has worked several times with Gulzar took to Twitter to share pictures of himself with the lyricist and showered love over him.

While one of the pictures features the two having a conversation, the other one sees them hugging each other while posing.
Shankar Mahadevan as a part of his musical trio – Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy – has collaborated with lyricist Gulzar for music composition of several films, including the patriotic drama ‘Raazi’ which has been directed by senior poet’s daughter Meghna Gulzar.
Gulzar’s mantra of staying relevant
Gulzar has many awards and recognitions in his kitty. Not just domestically, his work has found strong resonance across the globe. Apart from winning a Grammy as well as an Oscar for his song, Jai Ho for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, Gulzar also has 5 National Film Awards and 21 Filmfare Awards to his credit.
Gulzar had once said that he stays relevant after decades of writing by “feeling the pulse of the gully-mohalla, the nation, the globe that I live in. Being master of Urdu doesn’t interest me, being part of the global society does, breathing hope into that society matters to me”.
