Kangana Ranaut is excited to lend her hand in hosting Ekta Kapoor’s first reality show ‘Lock Upp.’ Just like she can’t keep calm about India seeing her as the host of a “fearless” reality show, so are her fans. To deal with the level of excitement, Kangana Ranaut appeared at a press conference to launch the show, however, things between her and a journalist did not turn out well.
Kangana Ranaut engaged in a war of words with a journalist when asked about the recent controversy involving Deepika Padukone. The journalist asked her opinion about an influencer commenting on the “hemlines and necklines” of Deepika during the promotions of her upcoming film Gehraiyaan. Kangana curtly replied, “Look, I am here to defend those who can’t defend themselves. Alright? She can defend herself. She has the privilege, the platform and I can’t promote her film here. Sit down.”
Gehraiyaan, a film by Shakun Batra stars Deepika Padukone, Ananya Pandey, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa will be streaming on Amazon Prime on February 11. The stars are busy promoting their film.
When the journalist tried to clarify herself saying that while referring to Deepika she did not intend “to promote any film,” Kangana snapped saying, “Of course, you named the film. You are also naming a film which is coming. Obviously, you are being planted by the PRs of the said film. Arre yaar, hum itne bhi toh naadaan nahi hai na (I am not so naive). Do it outside, I will engage with you for 45 minutes.”
Ekta Kapoor who is producing ‘Lock Upp’ said, “It’s a different press conference, my friend.” The journalist said that Kangana’s tone while replying to her “was a little condescending.”
“You know, this is an old trick. The last time I was banned by the media in the same press conference, it didn’t lead to anything. So please have a seat,” Kangana added.
She referred to her infamous argument with a journalist at the Judgementall Hai Kya press conference in 2019, where she accused him of running a “smear campaign’ against her, while a part of the media opposed the statement by announcing a boycott against her.
