Jersey: Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur starrer’s release date postponed amid Omicron scare

The story revolves around a talented but failed cricketer, who makes a comeback in late thirties , in order to fulfil his son’s wish.

New Delhi: Makers of upcoming sports-drama Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur-starrer ‘Jersey’ have announced to postpone the release of the film amidst spike in Omicron cases in India.

“In view of the current circumstances and new covid guidelines, we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film Jersey. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey,” the statement on behalf of the team ‘Jersey’ read.

Gowtam Tinnanuri Directorial is a remake of actor Nani’s Telegu movie by the same name. The film was earlier scheduled to release on December 31, 2021. The new release date regarding the film is yet to be announced.

The decision came hours within the Delhi government on Tuesday ordered the shut down of multiplexes, cinema halls, spas, and gyms in order to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases.

However, this isn’t the first time the much awaited film has to push its release due to certain issues. Previously, was slated for a Diwali release in November, which later gets postponed to hit the silver screens on December 31, 2021.

The story of the movie revolves around a talented but failed cricketer named Arjun, who decides to make a comeback in his late thirties and play for India, in order to fulfil his son’s wish.

The sports drama which has music by Sachet and Parmpara is presented by Allu Aravind and produced by Aman Gill, Dil Raju, and S.Naga Vamsi.

Shahid Kapoor wrapped the filming of the movie during the coronavirus pandemic in December last year.
