Memes take over Twitter, lampoon celebs as latter removes famed blue tick

As per new rules of the micro-blogging portal’s new policy, only those Twitter users will now have verified blue tick accounts who are paying or will pay for the service.

New Delhi: Days after asking Twitter users to either lose verified blue tick status or start paying for service, the micro-blogging website has started removing blue ticks from all accounts, including the celebrities.

Last night, many Bollywood celebrities also lost their verified status as Elon Musk-led conglomerate pulled out blue tick from their Twitter accounts.

Among the top-notch celebrities who lost verified status on the microblogging website include Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt and politicians like CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

As per new rules of the micro-blogging portal’s new policy, only those Twitter users will now have verified blue tick accounts who are paying or will pay for the service. The web service comes at a cost of $8 per month while for app-based service, one will have to pay $ 11 per month.

Since Thursday night, many celebrities have taken to Twitter to share a screenshot of their account losing blue tick status.

Elon Musk described this transition from free to paid service as a restructuring strategy that was needed for helping the Twitter survive on its own.

However, there are many who don’t buy Musk’s theory of Twitter rejuvenation. They claim that this step will clip the wings of Twitter and also will mark a decline in its popularity.

Many netizens shared hilarious memes & jokes on the same.
