1,000 reacharge borewells, Kisan Mitra Club, Pashu Dhan card: Khattar govt announces measures for farmers welfare (VIDEO)

Khattar government has introduced a slew of measures for farmers welfare, including ‘mera pani- meri virasat’ aimed at improving the depleting ground water level in many parts of the state.

New Delhi: Haryana government has taken slew of measures for the welfare of farmers across the state. Addressing a press conference last evening, Haryana CM M L Khattar gave an account of how farmers were benefitting from state govt’s schemes like Mera Fasal – Mera Byora portal, PM crop insurance scheme (under which farmers have received about Rs 2632 crores) and also briefed about upcoming schemes like Kisan Mitra Club and Pashudhan Credit Card.

Mera Pani-Meri Virasat

This scheme drew strong criticism from Opposition parties, who claimed that govt was forcing farmers to stop paddy cultivation and shift to other crops. Rubbishing these claims, Khattar govt said it is a genuine endeavour to save water for future generations.

The government has introduced ‘mera pani- meri virasat’ scheme to improve the ground water under which the farmers are being encouraged to sow crops other than of paddy. At many places in the state, the water level has gone down to almost 200 metres.

Khattar said that in the paddy cultivation belt, if timely measures are not taken, the future generations will suffer.
Since, 1 kg of paddy requires 4,000-5,000 litre water, it is advisable to shift to another crop to save groundwater. The government is offering Rs 7,000 per acre to such farmers. Till now, 42,000 farmers have registered themselves to sow alternative crops in place of paddy in 55,000 hectare under the scheme of the state government. He said the state government has set a target to cover one lakh hectares.

1,000 recharge borewells

The chief minister said that the Haryana government will construct 1,000 water recharge bores in underground water deficient areas of the state to recharge underground water with rainfall.

CM Khattar said that 90 percent of the cost of the bore will be borne by the government and 10 percent by the farmers. Each recharge borewell is likely to improve water level in 10 acres.

Kisan Mitra Club

Khattar said that Kisan Mitra Clubs will be formed to apprise, inform and educate the farmers about agriculture related schemes. The club will comprise of farmers, govt officials and volunteers. Each club will have 1,000 farmers. Since, the state has 17 farmer families, the govt has set a target of creating 17,000 Kisan Mitra clubs in the state.

Moreover, schemes like Mera Fasal – Mera Byora portal have already helped farmers in enhancing their produce.

Pashu Dhan Credit Card

Under Pashu Dhan credit card, farmers involved in animal husbandry will be provided loan of Rs 1.60 lakh at zero rate.

The government has increased the Minimum Support Price of maize from Rs 1,760 to Rs 1,850 per quintal, due to which farmers who sow maize would get a benefit of at least Rs 10,500 per acre.

Strengthening water canal network in state

Khattar said that the government is making serious efforts to bring water in SYL canal and Hansi-Butana canal.

“Besides this, plans to bring water through other sources including Lakhwar Dam in Uttarakhand and Renuka Dam Project are also in progress,” Khattar said.

He also said that about 6,000 farmers will be provided with tubewell motor connection.

Claiming that the procurement of wheat and mustard was done smoothly in the State, Khattar said that out of Rs 16, 000 crores, our government has directly transferred the amount of Rs 11, 000 crore in the count of farmers of their procured crops so far. Remaining around of Rs 500 crores were delayed due to technical problem, will soon be paid to farmers.
