‘Advices galore for stopping Diwali crackers but no word for Namaz on streets’: Devikanandan Thakur tears into Aamir Khan

Spiritual leader Devikanandan Thakur today took objection to selective campaign to target Hindu festivals.

New Delhi: This festive season, a couple of advertisements have come under cloud for their objectionable and repugnant content, thereby offending the sentiments of certain section of society.

From Aamir Khan’s CEAT campaign for Diwali, FabIndia’s Jash-e-Riwaaz to Sabyasachi’s Mangalsutra ad, all have raised the hackles of people and rightly faced strong backlash on Twitter.

Every year too, companies release numerous advertisement campaigns prior to Karwa Chauth, Diwali, Dhanteras and other upcoming festivals but this has been a season when these specific ads have ruffled the feathers.

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s CEAT sponsored ad themed ‘no Diwali crackers on streets’ created wide uproar on social media, triggering strong reactions.

Spiritual leader Devikanandan Thakur today took objection to selective campaign to target Hindu festivals. He slammed the narrative, engineered by vested groups and fanned by certain celeb figures and appealed to the community to wake up and stop this selective onslaught.

‘Hindu festivals being targeted, small height actor setting narrative’

Referring to Aamir Khan’s controversial Diwali ad, Thakur said, “Every year when Diwali arrives, these selective ads feature a narrative appealing people not to fire crackers as it leads to pollution and is cruel to animals. On Holi, they ask us not to use colors as they result in skin infections and pollute the water. Only Hindu festivals and rituals are being targeted. There’s a short height Bollywood actor, who often make fun of Hindu rituals in his films. In one of his recent ads, he was seen telling people that roads are there to drive onto them and not to burst crackers. But he won’t urge people not to offer prayers (Namaz) on roads, or not slaughter animals on it.”
