New Delhi: Centre and Mamata government have been at odds in fight against Covid-19 with both often getting into verbal duel. The war of words escalated yesterday when Mamata Banerjee lashed out at the Centre during PM Modi’s video conference with the Chief Ministers, accusing it of playing politics and taking unilateral decisions. She hit at the Home Minister, in particular, for ‘discriminating’ against the state, reports said.

Despite Mamata’s tirade, the Centre chose to maintain silence and not react to it. However, this morning, two BJP-ruled CMs Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Biplab Deb hit out at the West Bengal CM for weakening the fight against Covid-19 and also giving a political spin to the nationwide campaign against the COVID.

In a series of tweets, Shivraj Singh Chouhan not only asserted PM Modi’s vision and leadership in tackling the pandemic but also advised her to not use it as an opportunity for scoring political points.

“Didi should keep politics aside, should look at national picture rather than finding means to target Centre. She should co-operate with Centre in battling this pandemic. For other fights, there is certainly a political battleground,” Shivraj tweeted

Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb also took on Banerjee for her remarks. Biplab Deb said after PM Modi came to power in 2014, the discussion of the distinction between small and big states was almost over. But sadly, Didi has started this discussion again and has given birth to the distinction again. No one should underestimate small states.

He also praised Modi and Shah’s efforts to “strengthen the economy of the Northeast region”. CM Biplab Deb further said that due to the leadership of PM Modi ji, the look-east policy of the North East changed the whole scenario for the North-eastern states.
