Another jolt to TMC, two time MLA Dipak Haldar jumps ship, joins BJP

Blow to Mamata: Dipak Haldar, an elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Diamond Harbour on TMC ticket, had resigned from the party yesterday.

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress leaders continue to ditch their own party for ‘greener pastures’ ahead of Assembly elections in the state.

This time, giving headache to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee is party’s two-time MLA Dipak Haldar, who switched sides today and joined the the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. BJP party leaders Mukul Roy and Suvendu Adhikari were present at the event among other party members.

Haldar, an elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Diamond Harbour on TMC ticket, resigned from the party yesterday.

“I am a two-time MLA. But, since 2017, I am not allowed to work properly for the masses. Despite informing the leadership, no action was taken to improve the situation. I am not informed about any party programme. I am answerable to the people of my constituency and supporters,” a news agency  quoted Haldar as saying.

Exodus continues in West Bengal

Defections continue in Trinamool Congress over differences with party’s top leadership.

A number of leaders have left TMC, with most of them joining the BJP soon after. Till now, at least 18 sitting and former MLAs, including some former cabinet ministers, have shifted loyalties to the saffron party.

Rajib Banerjee

On Saturday, former TMC minister MLA Rajib Banerjee and a few other TMC leaders joined BJP in the national capital after meeting senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

A month ago, TMC heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari joined BJP on December 19 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
