Arnab Goswami released from Mumbai’s Taloja jail after SC order, thousands on streets welcome him (VIDEO)

Arnab Goswami flashed victory sign after his release from Taloja jail and also made a small statement. He thanked the Supreme Court and called it a victory of the people of India.

New Delhi: Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami was released from Mumbai’s Taloja Jail on Wednesday, hours after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the 2018 abetment to suicide case.

Before Arnab’s release from jail, hundreds of people had assembled outside the prison premises to express solidarity with him and condemn the despotic manner in which he was arrested from his house.

Huge outpouring of support was palpable as his car moved out of the jail premises. People displayed placards and shouted slogans for him. Arnab Goswami flashed victory sign after his release and also made a small statement. He thanked the Supreme Court and called it a victory of the people of India.

People joined him when he chanted ‘Vande Mataram, Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

Visuals showed Goswami emerging from the sunroof of vehicle and shouting at a crowd gathered outside the prison.

Earlier in the day, coming down heavily on Maharashtra government over his arrest, the Supreme Court observed that it would be a travesty of justice if personal liberty of a person is curtailed like this.

Vacation bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud and also comprising Justice Indira Banerjee ordered the release of Arnab Goswami and 2 other accused on interim bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 and directed Mumbai Police Commissioner to ensure the order is followed immediately.

Goswami and 2 others were arrested on November 4 in connection with the 2018 suicide case. Later, they were sent to 14-day judicial custody by a lower court later that day.
