Ayesha suicide case: AIMIM chief slams her tormentors, says ‘harassing a woman is not mardangi’

New Delhi: The heart-rending incident of 23-year-old girl Ayesha in Gujarat committing suicide over the torturous treatment by her husband and in-laws shook the countrymen to the core.
Amid the latest political figure to condemn the barbaric and tragic incident is All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

Owaisi came down hard on Ayesha’s tormentors including her husband and her in-laws who apparently repeatedly assaulted and forced her to take the extreme step.

Addressing the party cadre ahead of Telangana MLC polls, the Hyderabad MP spoke about the case and said how much it has affected him personally.

Owaisi excoriates dowry takers

“Irrespective of which religion you belong to, I strongly urge everyone to end this greed of dowry. Harassing a woman is not ‘mardangi’ (manhood). The 23-year-old girl who ended her life was tortured for dowry which eventually led her to take such drastic step. The family should be ashamed of forcing her to take such action,” Owaisi said while addressing a rally.

“What kind of men are these? Is there no humanity left in them? They beat up the women in their house and pretend to be good in the outside world. Just remember, you cannot cheat Allah.” he added.

Owaisi’s advice to ‘troubled daughters’

Owaisi also had a piece of advice for those woman/daughters who face physical violence or mental torture at the hands of their husbands or families.
He appealed them to not take the drastic step of killing self and rather take the legal route to punish the perpetrators.

Ayesha recorded message before jumping into river

The 23-year-old girl killed herself by jumping into the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Ayesha was married to Aarif Khan Gafurji from Jalore in Rajasthan. They got married in July 2018 and were recently estranged from each other. Ayesha was staying with her parents in Ahmedabad since March last year.

After the video emerged, the police have lodged a case under IPC section 306 for ‘abetment to suicide’ against Aarif at Sabarmati Riverfront West police station.
