Ayodhya Airport to be renamed as Maryada Purushottam Sri Ram Airport, Yogi cabinet okays proposal

Ayodhya Airport will now be known as Maryada Purushottam Sri Ram Airport. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet led by CM Yogi Adityanath has cleared the proposal to effect the change.

New Delhi: Months after Ram Janmabhoomi Poojan in Ayodhya, the holy town is gearing for renaming of its key installations after Lord Ram. Ayodhya Airport will now be known as Maryada Purushottam Sri Ram Airport. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet led by CM Yogi Adityanath has cleared the proposal to effect the change.

The proposal for renaming the airport after Lord Ram will be sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation after it is passed by the state Assembly, said an official release of Uttar Pradesh government.

Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya tweeted, “UP cabinet approved the proposal to rename the airport at Ayodhya in the name of Maryada Purushottam Bhagwan Sri Ram ji. State government is committed to make Ayodhya, the city of #Sriram_Lala, a leading place among the religious places of the world.”

“The government believes that there will be a huge tourist traffic — both domestic and international — in Ayodhya when the construction of grand Ram temple is completed. The airport will further facilitate this,” an official spokesperson for the Chief Minister said earlier in September.

On the occasion of Deepotsave on Diwali eve, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had announced that Ayodhya will have both international and domestic terminals and could potentially be one of the largest airports of UP.

UP govt has reportedly set a deadline of December 2021 for the completion of the airport.

A survey was already done in May to identify land for the landing of larger aircrafts. The Yogi government has approved a sum of Rs 525 crores for the airport construction and a sum of Rs 300 crores has already been spent.

Ministry of Civil Aviation has already assured full cooperation and support for the development of Ayodhya and other airport facilities in the state.
