Ayodhya on alert after objectionable items dumped outside mosques at night

The incident happened in the wee hours of Wednesday and left the community enraged, however, police mediation and intervention by religious leaders helped soothe the situation.

New Delhi: In an alleged attempt to disturb peace & communal harmony in the temple town of Ayodhya, some unidentified miscreants dumped some objectionable items outside a religious place at night & ran away. The police is on the lookout for them and also maintaining a vigil in the area to keep the situation under check.

The objectionable items placed outside the mosques included torn pages of sacred text, raw meat and threats written on paper. The incident happened in the wee hours of Wednesday and left the community enraged, however, police mediation and intervention by religious leaders helped soothe the situation. The district administration officials have assured that culprits will be caught soon and action will be taken against them.

Police officials say that this was an attempt by mischief-mongers to disrupt communal harmony in a peaceful district. Senior officials including DM Nitish Kumar, IG KP Singh and SSP Shailesh Pandey also visited the spot and took stock of the situation.

Four FIRs have been lodged by the UP cops in connection with the profane act outside the religious structure. The objects were dumped outside 4 mosques in the city namely Taatshah Jama Masjid, Masjid Ghosiyana, Kashmiri Mohalla mosque and mazar of Gulab Shah Baba.

Reports suggest that some bike-born men were behind the incident. They dumped the torn pages of holy book on stairs of mosques at around 2 AM in the wee hours and ran away.

Police is scanning the CCTV cameras outside the mosques to identify the culprits. Cameras installed at houses & shops in the vicitiny are also being scanned for getting clues on the culprits. Various teams have been formed and they have launched hunt for unidentified miscreants.

Reacting to the incident, the BJP MP Lallu Singh said that this was an attempt to defame the state government by inciting communal sentiments. He also condemned the incident in harshest terms.

The incident comes in the backdrop of controversy over use of loudspeakers for Azaan, from the minarets of mosques.
