Bihar Elections 2020: BJP expels 9 rebel leaders for fighting polls against NDA candidates

The sacking of 9 party leaders comes on back of Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi warning them not to fight elections against NDA candidates. All these leaders were ticket hopefuls in the upcoming contest for Bihar but failed to book a ticket for themselves.

New Delhi: Ahead of the crucial Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expelled its 9 leaders for 6 years on Monday, for filing nominations against NDA candidates in the upcoming polls.

Some seasoned politician like Rajendra Singh and Rameshwar Chaurasia have also been shown the door for ‘anti-party activity’.

“You are contesting elections against NDA candidate, which tarnishes the image of NDA as well as party. This is against the party principles. All of you are expelled for 6 years for indulging in anti-party activities,” a BJP notice signed by state party chief Sanjay Jaiswal said.

Expelled BJP leaders include :

1. Rajendra Singh, Sasaram
2. Rameshwar Chaurasia, Sasaram
3. Usha Vidyarthi, Patna rural
4. Ravindra Yadav, Jhajha
5. Shweta Singh, Bhojpur
6. Indu Kashyap, Jehanabad
7. Anil Kumar Patna rural
8. Mrinal Shekhar
9. Ajay Pratap, Jamui

All these leaders were ticket hopefuls in the upcoming contest for Bihar but failed to book a ticket for themselves. In retaliation, they quit the party and are in the poll fray against NDA candidates from other political parties.

BJP and JD(U) are together contesting the elections in the leadership of Nitish Kumar while LJP walked out of the alliance in last minute. It however, continues to remain soft on BJP and belligerent on JD(U). Out of 243 seats, BJP and JD(U) agreed on 121:122 seats, out of which they have allotted some seats to small parties like Vikasshil Insaan Party and the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular).

Elections for 243-member Bihar assembly will be held in 3 phases–October 28, November 3, and 7, and results will be declared on November 10.
