
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced names of 6 candidates for the upcoming biennial polls in Uttar Pradesh and for 1 seat in Bihar Legislative Council.
While 12 seats in the UP Legislative Council are falling vacant owing to the retirement of members, by-election to two seats in Bihar’s Upper House was necessitated owing to the election of Sushil Kumar Modi and Vinod Narain Jha to the Rajya Sabha and state Assembly respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh, Kunwar Manvendra Singh, Govind Narayan Shukla, Salil Bishnoi, Ashwini Tyagi, Dharmveer Prajapati and Surendra Chaudhary are set to contest for the Legislative Council on BJP ticket.

In Bihar, former Union Minister Shahnawaz Hussain has been named as one of the BJP’s candidates for legislative council election in Bihar.
He lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Bhagalpur and was not given ticket in 2019 LS polls. Currently, he is the party’s national spokesperson and a member of the party’s Central Election Committee.
The polling for 12 seats will be held on January 28 and counting will be done, an hour later after completion of polling.
