New Delhi: A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell chief Amit Malviya in Bengaluru on Wednesday, over his alleged defamatory & slanderous tweet against former Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP was quick to label the FIR as politically motivated & done with a malafide intention to which Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge replied, “I want to ask the BJP which part of the FIR has been filed with a mala fide intention. We have done it after taking legal opinion.”

Political fight over FIR against Malviya

A political fighting is ensuing over the filing of FIR against BJP’s social media handle in-charge. Congress may have reasons to justify police case against Malviya but the BJP has launched scathing attack on grand old party as well as recently formed Cong government in Karnataka and accused it of employing malicious means to frame BJP leader.

BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla said, “The FIR against Amit Malviya is nothing but a malicious use of provisions of law to silence, intimidate. At best, if Rahul Gandhi was aggrieved by any tweet, he could have filed a defamation case in court. ”

Another BJP leader Tejashwi Surya said that both these sections deal with promoting enmity between groups and this will be challenged in court.
