New Delhi: In order to ensure aid to those living in flood-affected districts, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been on ground zero for three days. On Friday, he met with flood victims and did an aerial inspection of the Gorakhpur and Maharajganj districts of the state.
Assuring those affected by the recent floods at Dhani in Maharajganj and Campierganj and Sahjanwa in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister said, “The central and state governments are with them in this hour of calamity.” He also added that the service of the people is the priority and commitment of the double-engine government.
The Chief Minister first reached Dhani block while conducting an aerial survey of Maharajganj district and met the flood victims. He then reached JP Inter College in Campierganj, Gorakhpur, and Murari Inter College in Sahjanwa to assess the flood damage. He also visited the flood victims there and gave out relief supplies.
“In this hour of unexpected flood calamity, the government is standing by every victim with full sympathy and help,” the chief minister said.
To guarantee that the flood victims receive all the aid possible, the CM himself has been in the afflicted districts. He has been on a three-day tour to ensure that the residents of the flood-affected area have access to all forms of help and relief.
The CM arrived at Sahjanwa via Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Ayodhya, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Dakshinachal of Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Campierganj. Along with this, the Group of Ministers is also visiting and monitoring the relief work.
While interacting with the flood victims, the CM said, “For the first time in October, all of us are dealing with the tragedy of unforeseen flooding. Facing the challenge of disaster firmly, all possible help is being provided to every flood-affected person. There won’t be any form of scarcity.”
He continued: “Provisions have been made for ration kits in adequate numbers, and food packets are being distributed to homes where food cannot be prepared due to floods. The administration has been told to set up more boats to transport people who are entirely engulfed in flood waters to safer locations.”
Relief material being distributed in adequate quantity
CM Yogi also said that a sufficient quantity of foodgrains and other necessary items were being distributed to the flood victims. The relief materials are being given in two types of kits and include 10 kgs of rice and wheat flour each, 2 kg of toor dal, half kg of salt, 250 grams each of turmeric, chili and vegetable spices, 1 litre of refined oil, 5 kgs of ‘lai’ (puffed rice) , 2 kgs of roasted gram, 1 kg of jaggery, 10 packets of biscuits, one packet each of matchbox, candles and two bath soaps. Apart from this, the government is also providing 10 kgs of potatoes, 5 litres of kerosene, two jerry cans of 5 litres capacity each and a tarpaulin sheet measuring 15 by 10 feet to the flood victims.
Rs 4 lakh announced for family of deceased flood victims
CM Yogi said that the administration has been instructed to distribute relief materials to the flood affected families on a war footing so that no one has to suffer. He said that the officials have been directed to immediately provide a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the deceased victim’s family, assistance of upto Rs 2.5 lakh rupees in case of organ fracture, and also financial assistance to the seriously injured. Besides, Rs 1.20 lakh has to be given to those whose houses have been damaged due to floods for its reconstruction on the lines of Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana. Assistance will also be given for partially damaged houses from the Disaster Relief Fund.
He said that for the damage caused to the crops due to the floods, the administration has been directed to conduct a survey in every gram panchayat and send the compensation amount to the farmers’ accounts at the earliest. CM Yogi stated that the state administration is closely monitoring the situation resulting from first a drought and now unexpected floods. In view of this, seeds of pulses and vegetables are being provided free of cost to the farmers.
Government will give assistance even if farmers lose livestock
He added that a survey of animals damaged due to floods is also being conducted. A compensation of Rs 37500 will be provided on the death of milch cattle, cow, buffalo etc., Rs 4000 on the death of goat, sheep, pig, Rs 32000 on the death of non-milk animal camel, horse etc., Rs 20000 on the death of calf, donkey, pony etc and Rs 100 on death of a hen.
Officials instructed to launch sanitation campaign on war footing
CM Yogi also instructed officials to conduct a cleanliness, sanitation and sanitisation campaign on war footing to protect people from diseases as flood water was likely to recede in the next two to three days. “Before Diwali, ensure that the supply of clean drinking water and power supply is restored and roads damaged by the floods are repaired,” Yogi said.
CM Yogi meets elderly women and children
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was overwhelmed to meet elderly women and children while giving relief supplies to the flood victims. He addressed the elderly women as “Mai”. He also learned about their troubles and assured them that there is no need to worry about their lives. He said that if somebody is unable to pick up the relief supplies themselves, the administration will deliver them to their home.
The Chief Minister gave the children of the flood victims a lot of love and compassion in addition to chocolates.
