Over 25,500 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in Delhi, positivity rate increased to nearly 30 pc in 24 hrs: CM Arvind Kejriwal

India reported its highest-ever single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with over 2.61 lakh new cases and more than 1,500 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry on Sunday.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed press conference on COVID situation in the national capital.

He said that the covid19 positivity rate has been increased from 24% to 30% in last 24 hours. He further said that less than 100 ICU beds are left and there’s oxygen shortage.

“Positivity rate increased from 24% to 30% in last 24 hours. Less than 100 ICU beds left & there’s oxygen shortage. Spoke to Dr Harsh Vardhan yesterday & Amit Shah ji this morning regarding lack of beds & informed them that we’re in dire need,” said CM Arvind Kejriwal.

Arvind Kejriwal also said that Commonwealth Games Village and  some schools are being turned into Covid facilities.

“Around 25,000 COVID19 cases reported in Delhi in last 24 hours. There are 10,000 beds in Delhi, incl that of central govt. Of which, 1,800 beds currently reserved for COVID. I request Centre to allot 7,000 of 10,000 beds in view of severe COVID cases,” he said.

In the last 24 hours, 1,501 COVID-related deaths were reported in the country taking the death toll to 1,77,150. As many as 2,61,500 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in India in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of cases has gone up to 1,47,88,109. The active number of cases in the country stands at 18,01,316.

In the last 24 hours, 1,38,423 people recovered from the disease. With this, the total recoveries reached 1,28,09,643.
