ED arrests CPI (M) leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Bineesh, says he funded Bengaluru drug peddler

The Enforcement Directorate said Bineesh was the financier of drug cartel and pumped in huge amount of unaccounted fund into the bank account of drug peddler Anoop Mohammad.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of Kerala CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan for alleged money laundering and financial links to a businessman Mohammed Anoop.

The central agency said Bineesh was the financier of drug cartel and pumped in huge amount of unaccounted fund into the bank account of drug peddler Anoop Mohammad.

Mohammed Anoop was arrested by ED and during his custodial interrogation, he inter-alia admitted that he was indulging in sale and purchase of narcotics drugs and closely associated with Bineesh Kodiyeri.

It also revealed that he held various bank accounts and indulged in transferring/layering of huge proceeds of crime into various accounts.

The ED said Mohammad had admitted during his interrogation that he was just a ‘benami’ and Kodiyeri was the main funder of the psychedelic drug racket.

“Fund trail investigation also established that huge amount of unaccounted funds were being regularly credited in his accounts by Bineesh Kodiyeri. These were preceded by large cash deposits in Kerala into the accounts of Bineesh Kodiyeri,” the agency said.

ED said that Mohammed Anoop is a Benamidar of Bineesh Kodiyeri and all his financial dealings were done on the instructions of Bineesh Kodiyer who had paid huge amounts of money to Mohammed Anoop. He could not explain these cash & fund transactions and was completely evasive in his replies.

Bineesh Kodiyeri was produced before PMLA Court on October and was remanded to ED custody till November 2.
