ED arrests its former sepoy for fake search operation & issuing forged summons

The sepoy reportedly got fake search operation/raids conducted at some locations in Kolkata and also issued forged documents/summons to person facing investigation.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Kolkata unit on Tuesday said that it has arrested Sukumar Kamaliya, who served the agency as Sepoy on deputation between 2019-2022.

The sepoy was posted as head constable rank personnel in Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) and then went to served the probe agency on deputation for a 3-year period.

He was taken into custody by the agency sleuths on April 16 over alleged money laundering charges.

The sepoy reportedly got fake search operation/raids conducted at some locations in Kolkata and also issued forged documents/summons to person facing investigation.

In one case, Sukumar Kamaliya in un-authorized manner, obtained information about the investigation being conducted against a person during his posting and after his repatriation, as a part of extortion plan, issued a fraudulent summons to the said person in order to extort money from him. The said summons was forwarded through WhatsApp from his Mobile so that the said person should contact him directly and money can be extorted from him.

In the other matter, he conducted unauthorized search operation in a coffee shop in South Kolkata and threatened the owner of the coffee shop to extort Rs. 10 Lakh. The owner of the coffee shop lodged a complaint in the ED.

ED took cognizance of the matter immediately and the search of his residence and resulting in recovery and seizure of certain incriminating documents and electronic gadgets.

He was arrested on 16.04.2023 under PMLA, 2002 and the Ld. Special Court (PMLA) Kolkata remanded him to ED custody till 29.04.2023.

Further investigation in the case is in progress.
