Former CBI director Ashwani Kumar found hanging at Shimla residence

Kumar joined the Indian Police Service in 1973 and went on to become Director-General of Police (DGP) of the Himachal Pradesh in August 2006.

New Delhi: Former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Ashwani Kumar was found dead at his Shimla residence on Wednesday, police said. Mr Ashwani Kumar had also served as Governor of Manipur and Nagaland.

The body of former CBI director was found hanging by a a rope at his residence, Shimla SP Mohit Chawla confirmed.
Police officials investigating the ‘suicide case’ said that a suicide note was found by his side, which seems to indicate that former top cop to take the extreme step due to health issues, said local media reports. The authenticity of suicide note is being verified by police.

Kumar joined the Indian Police Service in 1973 and went on to become Director-General of Police (DGP) of the Himachal Pradesh in August 2006.

After 2 years, Kumar was appointed to the sensitive post of CBI Director. Later, he was sworn-in as the Governor of Nagaland on March 21, 2013 and as Governor of Manipur on July 29, 2013.
