Gang-rape in UP’s Balrampur: CM Yogi Adityanath should resign if he can’t ensure safety to women, says Mayawati

Gang-rape in UP’s Balrampur: BSP chief Mayawati expressed her anger towards the unstoppable rape cases in Uttar Pradesh. She said that UP CM Yogi Adiryanath should resign if he can’t ensure safety to women.

New Delhi: UP CM Yogi Adityanath should resign if he can’t ensure safety to women. I urge the Central govt to send him to his place – Gorakhnath Math. If he doesn’t like the temple, he should be given the task of Ram Temple construction, said BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday.

She said, “not a single day passes in UP without any crime against women. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should resign if he can’t ensure safety to women. He is unable to maintain law & order in the state. I urge the Centre to send him to his place – Gorakhnath Math.”

After Hathras incident, I hoped UP govt will take action against people committing crimes against women. But a similar crime has been committed against a Dalit student in Balrampur. Under BJP’s UP govt, criminals, mafias & rapists are having a free run,” she added.

The statement comes after a 22-year-old woman, who was allegedly gang-raped in Balrampur died on Wednesday.

Dev Ranjan, Superintendent of Police (SP), Balrampur, said that the victim’s family alleged that two men raped her. “We have received a complaint in which the family of a 22-year-old woman said that she used to work at the firm. On Wednesday, she did not return from the firm. Later, when she did return home on a rickshaw, she had a glucose drip inserted in her hand,” Ranjan told ANI.

Mayawati on Hathras Gang-rape case

It would be better if the Supreme Court takes suo moto cognizance of the Hathras incident and takes appropriate action, said Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Wednesday.

She also said that not handing over the body of the gang-rape victim to the family and performing the last rites without them creates doubt and resentment in the people. “Not handing over the body of Hathras gang-rape dalit victim and performing the last rites at midnight in absence of her family by UP police creates a lot of doubt and resentment in people. The BSP strongly condemns such a wrong attitude of the police,” Mayawati tweeted.

“It would be better if the Hon’ble Supreme Court takes appropriate action by taking cognizance of this serious case on its own, otherwise the attitude of the UP Government and the police in this heinous case does not seem that family will get justice and culprits will be punished severely even after the death of the gang-rape victim,” she said in another tweet.

The body of the victim was creamted in the wee hours of Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a probe in the Hathras gangrape incident. The SIT has been asked to present a report in seven days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also directed that strictest action should be taken against the culprits involved in Hathras gang-rape incident, the Chief Minister said.

The 19-year-old died in Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday, after she was gang-raped in Hathras a fortnight ago. The victim was brought to the Delhi hospital on Monday from Aligarh Muslim University Medical College
