New Delhi: On the 73rd Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Eminent personalities from across the world digitally participated in Global Prayer Meet to commemorate his martyrdom on January 30, 2021. The function was organized by Gandhi Mandela Foundation where “The Idea of Gandhi can never die” was the sentiment echoing affluently during the entire session.
Eminent personalities who joined the Global Meet included Swami Avdheshanand Giri ji Maharaj, Former Chief Justices of India Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice Dipak Mishra Swami Chidanand Saraswati; Acharya Dr. Lokesh Muni; Spiritual Preceptor Dr. Pawan Sinha; Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati; Adesh Tyagi, Director, GMF; Maulana Kalbe Rushaid Rizvi; Sh. Ajay Bhutoria; Mir Junaid, President, J&K Workers Party; Barkha Singh, Former Chairman, DCW, Dr. Deepak Narwal and Dr. Pradeep Dhakal.
It was overwhelming to see how Gandhiji’s principles continue to inspire being evident in the meet. All the Eminent Guests presented the same significant sentiment, that Gandhiji has always lived by his ideals and he is all the more relevant in today’s times.
Gandhi Mandela Award Jury Member and Former CJI Justice Deepak Misra talked about how Gandhiji lived by the idea of inclusiveness. He emphasised on the fact that ideals of Gandhiji shall remain relevant as long as humanity exists. Chairman of Jury, Former CJI and Former NHRC Chairman Justice K.G.
Balakrishnan, shared how Gandhiji worked for upliftment of the backward classes. He talked about the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi towards eliminating social evils like untouchability.
Juna Peethadheeswar and Gandhi Mandela Foundation Chairman Swami Avdheshand Giri ji Maharaj shed light on the spirituality of Gandhiji and reiterated the idea Gandhiji had about the upliftment of the poor whereas Swami Chidanand Saraswati (Founder, Parmarth Niketan) appreciated Gandhi’s notion on the equality, equilibrium and harmony in the society, calling it the need of the hour.
Swami Chidanand said that how a man with a lean body but full of confidence, with his grit and determination and power of truth & non-violence, without the use of any weapons, made a huge change in the society and the whole world witnessed that.
Shri Yaduvendra Mathur, Former Secretary, NITI Aayog talked about the punctuality of Mahatma Gandhi and how he used to give importance to time in his life. He stressed on the fact that the youth of the country should focus on completing their task on time.
Gandhi’s personality and deeds will remain as an inspiration pillar for the generations to come, said Social Reformer Acharya Lokesh Muni. On the other hand Pawan Sinha Guruji (Founder, Yuva Hriday Mission) praised the immorality of Gandhian thoughts, saying Bapu becomes more powerfully alive every year in India and the world.
Representing Rashtreey Ulama Sansad, Dr. Maulana Kalbe Rushaid Rizvi connected Gandhi to the India of villages which is more pure and self-reliant as the dream of Gandhi’s India.
The memorable online function started with the welcome speech by Mr. Nandan Jha, Founder, Gandhi Mandela Award and concluded with the cordial vote of thanks by the director of the foundation, Mr Adesh Tyagi.
