Gorakhpur Link Expressway likely by March 2022, CM Yogi reviews progress

In review meet, CM Yogi Adityanath directed District Magistrates & state officials to expedite work on the 6-lane expressway and complete it by given deadline. Chief Minister directed officials to ensure completion of earth work before onset of the rainy season.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday reviewed the progress of Gorakhpur Link Expressway, which will link Gorakhpur to Purvanchal Expressway.

In the review meet, CM Yogi directed the District Magistrates state officials to expedite work on the project and complete it by given deadline. Chief Minister directed officials to ensure completion of earth work before onset of the rainy season, to expedite one of the most ambitious projects of his government which has promised to give a boost to the social, economic and industrial progress of entire Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

CM said that the link once completed will provide a good alternative to commuters from Gorakhpur to Lucknow and vice-versa.

The Chief Minister was reviewing progress of the construction of package- 1 of 91.35 kms long Gorakhpur Link Expressway at Sikriganj.

The Link Expressway is starting from Jaitpur NH 27 in Gorakhpur and joining with Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh district. Expressing satisfaction over the progress of the project, he also asked the officials of PGCIL, Power Transmission and UP Power Corporation to accord high priority to the relocation of power lines during the course of construction. The CM also planted a sapling on the site.

CM Yogi later inspected the under-construction Ghagra bridge at Kamhariya and directed to ensure timely completion of the project.

Gorakhpur link expressway - Yogi

The UPEIDA CEO Awanish Kumar Awasthi told the Chief Minister that the designing of the bridge has been done by the experts of IIT, Roorkee and every possible attention is being given to maintain the quality and timeline.

The CM was also told that the work on18 out of 50 ‘wells’ of the bridge has already started while before onset of monsoon the work on all the ‘wells’ will have started. The officers of construction companies APCO and Dilip Buildcon assured the CM that the Gorakhpur Link Expressway would be completed by March, 2022.

The Gorakhpur Link Expressway is being constructed at a cost of Rs 5876.68 crore.

Purvanchal Expressway

The six-lane Purvanchal Expressway will connect Ghazipur district with Lucknow via Azamgarh and Ayodhya. The 340.824 Km expressway is being constructed at a cost of Rs 22,494 crore and will be passing through 9 districts including Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

UP Expressway -

According to UPEIDA, the expressway is expected to be opened for public by March 2021. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Purvanchal Expressway on July 14, 2018 in Azamgarh and 68% work has been completed till date.

It will be linked with the 302 km long Lucknow-Agra Expressway and the 165 km long Yamuna Expressway from Agra to Delhi.
