Gujarat Youth Congress president resigns a day ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state

In a major jolt to Congress, Gujarat Youth Congress president Vishwanathsinh Vaghela submitted his resignation from his post on Sunday.

New Delhi: In a major jolt to Congress, Gujarat Youth Congress president Vishwanathsinh Vaghela submitted his resignation from his post on Sunday. The resignation came just a day ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state. During his visit, Gandhi is scheduled to address booth-level party workers for the upcoming Assembly election in the state on September 5.

He will also address the ‘parivartan sankalp’ convention, organised at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad on the same day.

Earlier, in the day Wayanad MP drew criticism over his remark about the price rise in the country on Twitter. Hitting at the BJP government in a rally named ‘Mehangai Par Halla Boll in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi mistakenly said ‘Atta is at Rs 22 per litre’ in the country.

Reacting to the development, Gujarat BJP spokesperson Rutvij Patel wrote on Twitter, ”Tomorrow Rahul Gandhi is coming to Gujarat for ‘Join Congress Campaign’. But ‘Quit Congress campaign’ is going on in Gujarat.”

He added, ”The quit shows the nepotism has affected Congress’ own member.”

The 35-year-old Gujarat Congress was appointed as the President of the Gujarat Youth Congress in January this year. His resignation is the second setback for Congress after Ghulam Nabi Azad.
