Gurugram man arrested for allegedly attacking live-in partner with screwdriver over ‘refused physical relation’

The woman disclosed, “Shortly after we initiated our live-in relationship, Shivam purportedly engaged in a physical relationship with me, professing intentions of marriage. It came to my attention recently that Shivam is already married.”

New Delhi: A distressing incident unfolded in Gurugram as a man was apprehended on Friday following allegations of attacking his live-in partner with a screwdriver, leaving her grievously injured. The accused, identified as Shivam Kumar, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody near Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram. The incident prompted the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Sadar police station.

The complainant, a 28-year-old woman who also originates from Uttar Pradesh, leveled the accusations against Shivam Kumar. She claimed that the accused had coerced her into a physical relationship on the preceding Thursday. However, when she firmly declined, he reportedly resorted to violence, using a screwdriver to inflict injury upon her neck.

In accordance with the woman’s account, she had been residing independently in a rented accommodation in Gurugram, having separated from her husband. It was during this period that she crossed paths with Shivam Kumar, who hailed from Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh.

The woman disclosed, “Shortly after we initiated our live-in relationship, Shivam purportedly engaged in a physical relationship with me, professing intentions of marriage. It came to my attention recently that Shivam is already married.”

Detailing the incident, she elaborated, “On Thursday evening, he arrived on a motorcycle and exerted pressure on me to engage in a physical relationship once again. Upon my refusal, his anger escalated, and he resorted to physically assaulting me with a screwdriver aimed at my neck, after which he fled.”

Prompt medical attention was sought by the victim’s neighbors, who swiftly rushed her to a local hospital for treatment. In response to her formal complaint, an FIR was officially lodged, culminating in a swift police response. Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar, overseeing Naharpur police Chowki, led a team to apprehend the accused, Shivam Kumar, near Rajiv Chowk.

Varun Dahiya, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), commented, “The apprehended individual was taken into custody near Rajiv Chowk today (Friday) and is presently undergoing interrogation. He is scheduled to appear before a city court tomorrow.”

The incident highlights the gravity of issues involving consent and violence within relationships and underpins the importance of swift legal action in addressing such concerns.
