Hanuman Chalisa row: Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana chanted Hanuman Chalisa 101 times overnight in jail

The couple took to Twitter to accuse Uddhav Thackeray of falsely lodging a case against them after they called off their plan to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside his private residence, Matoshree.

New Delhi: After getting arrested by Mumbai Police on Saturday, MP Navneet Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana spent the whole night in jail reciting Hanuman Chalisa over and over again. The incident took place after the Rana couple were firm to reciting Hanuman Chalisa outside the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray’s residence.

The couple took to Twitter to accuse Uddhav Thackeray of falsely lodging a case against them after they called off their plan to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside his private residence, Matoshree.

“Under pressure from Uddhav Thackeray, we were arrested in a false case and while in Santa Cruz jail, we recited the Hanuman Chalisa 101 times all night,” the MP-MLA couple said in identical tweets in Marathi on their Twitter handles.

The Mumbai Police on Saturday arrested the Rana couple for allegedly “creating enmity between different groups” over their repeated threats to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside CM’s home.

The statement by the police read, “A case is registered at Khar Police against MLA Shri Ravi Rana and MP Smt Navneet Kaur Rana U/S 153(A), 34, IPC r/w 37(1) 135 Bombay police act. Both are taken into custody from their house at Khar. Further investigation is being done by Khar Police Station.”

On Saturday, massive protests were held by Shiv Sena workers against the couple for their alleged firmness. The Navneet in a live session accused Uddhav Thackeray of instigating Shiv Sena workers to hold a protest against the Rana couple.
