Hathras case: ‘Victim’s brother, mother killed her’, alleges accused in letter to SP

New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events, a copy of a letter written by the accused to the Superintendent of Police of Hathras has come out, which claims that they all are innocent and are being framed in a false case. The accused identified as Sandeep, Ramu, Lavkush and Ravi sent the letter, which bears their thumb impression, to the SP on Wednesday.

Demanding a fair probe, the main accused Sandeep has provided details of the incident and claims that the girl was beaten up by her mother and brother because they were not happy with their friendship. Sandeep also mentioned in his letter that he knew the victim and was in touch with her.

In the one-page note, Sandeep stated that, On September 14, he met the girl on the field but he came back to his home. I had gone to meet her in the fields that day where her mother and brothers were also present. I returned home after being asked by her to do so. I then started feeding cattle.

later I got to know from the villagers that her mother and brothers beat her up over our friendship, injuring her badly. I have never beaten her or done anything wrong with her. Her mother and brothers falsely accused me and three others and sent us to jail. We’re all innocent.  Request you to please investigate and get us justice.

The letter also states that except Lavkush, two others – Ravi and Ramu are Sandeep’s uncles.

The letter is dated Oct 7, 2020, with a purported thumb impression of all four accused in this case.

Hathras has been in the news since the alleged gang-rape and death of a 19-year-old Dalit woman few days ago. According to victim’s family, she was raped by four men from the village on September 14. The victim died at Delhi’s Safardajung Hospital few days ago, sparking protests across the country. The deceased was also cremated in the dead of the night by Uttar Pradesh police without the consent of the family.
