Heavy rains flood Mumbai’s Nair hospital, a Covid-19 dedicated facility (VIDEO)

A viral video showed Mumbai’s Nair hospital flooded with water. The hospital can be seen in knee-deep water, with containers floating in the water while healthcare workers in PPE kits stand helpless.

New Delhi: Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in Mumbai, with many areas reportedly submerged in water upto 3 feet. Waterlogging followed by overnight rains has brought life to a grinding halt.

A viral video on the internet shows Mumbai’s Nair hospital flooded with water. The hospital can be seen in knee-deep water, with containers floating in the water while PPE-clad healthcare workers stand in the background.

A leading news agency shared the video where containers, buckets and other items could be seen floating in the Nair Hospital. It is a dedicated Covid facility being run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Dr Satish Dharap, acting dean of Nair Hospital, said, “Severe waterlogging was reported around Nair Hospital on Wednesday morning owing to heavy rainfall. Due to waterlogging inside hospital premises, our Covid-19 screening OPD was shifted to casualty ward.”

According to weather office, city’s western suburbs received around 150 mm-200 mm of rainfall. This was apparently city’s heaviest downpour of the season and the second-highest 24-hour September rainfall in the last 26 years.

The rainfall made Mumbai’s fight against Coronavirus much more difficult as the hospitals are still reeling under the burden of increasing Covid-19 patients on daily basis.

Maharashtra remains the country’s worst-hit state by the pandemic with 12.42 lakh cases.
