New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday issued an advisory to States and Union Territories (UTs) for strict compliance with provisions of law in all matters related crimes against women.
In the advisory, the Centre has given directions on how to deal with crimes against women effectively and also said that failure of police to deal with will not only delay delivery of justice but will invite stringent action against the official concerned.
Compulsory registration of an FIR
There should be compulsory registration of FIR in case of a cognizable offence under the CrPC, the advisory said.
Zero FIR
The law also enables police to register FIR or “Zero FIR”, in case the crime is committed outside the jurisdiction of the police station, the ministry said.
