In big relief for UP consumers, Yogi govt withdraws Rs 7 power tariff slab

The new maximum rates have now been capped at Rs 6.50 per unit. Though a small reduction, it will significantly save consumers’ expenses on their electricity bills.

New Delhi: In a major relief to the power consumers in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government has withdrawn Rs 7 per unit power slab in the electricity bill. This was the uppermost slab for urban power consumers and with the introduction of new power tariff in the new financial year, the customers can take heave a sigh of relief.

The new maximum rates have now been capped at Rs 6.50 per unit. Though a small reduction, it will significantly save consumers’ expenses on their electricity bills.

Also, a 10% reduction of electricity rates for consumers have also been announced.

The UP Electricity Regulatory Commission has brought relief for BPL families as well as those living in rural belts.

Power cut

The BPL consumers will now have to pay power bills at the rate of Rs 3 per unit. For usage of about 100 units, they will pay at a rate of Rs 3 per unit, which was earlier fixed at Rs 3.50 per unit.

In rural areas, the existing power tariff upto 100 units has been retained.

For usage above 300 units, consumers in both rural and urban regions will can avail a rebate of ₹50 paise each.
