In Gujarat’s flood-hit areas, BAPS saints & volunteers take lead in relief operations

From food packets to basic essentials to clothing, the BAPS volunteers made it a point to reach the farthest & remotest locations to extend a helping hand to the affected population.

New Delhi: The recent spell of continuous rains in Gujarat created flood-like situation in Bharuch and Ankleshwar districts and saw many low-lying areas near the Narmada river inundated in water. The heavy downpour led to severe waterlogging in these areas and especially those situated along the Narmada coast saw widespread damages. People got stuck in their homes and life came to a grinding halt due to water deluge.

With rains pummeling the city and creating flood havoc, the saints & volunteers of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayn Sanstha (BAPS) sprung into action to provide aid & assistance to thousands of families stranded in their homes in the rain-hit regions of Bharuch & Ankleshwar.

Bharuch & Ankleshwar regions along with adjoining areas saw big water deluge due to water release from the swelling Narmada dam.

The Swaminarayan Sampradaya & its volunteers made a swift move to the flood-affected regions and took lead in providing relief materials. From food packets to basic essentials to clothing, the BAPS volunteers made it a point to reach the farthest & remotest locations to extend a helping hand to the affected population.

They covered many waist-deep areas on foot and reached out to submerged areas by boat to provide the basic essentials including food packets & drinking water.

According to reports, water level reached upto 10 feet in some places, thus submerging many homes. The volunteers distributed more than 20,000 food packets & provided meals to many that included khichdi, rice-dal & puri-sabzi to as many as 10,000 people.

The BAPS saints & volunteers not only assisted the flood-hit people and also ensured that the stranded livestock in these areas was provided with green fodder.

Notably, this is not the first instance of BAPS saints & volunteers joining the relief operation along with government agencies. There have been many past instances, where the BAPS saints quickly jumped into public service after any calamity, without worrying about their own safety.
