In West Bengal, policemen attacked while implementing lockdown, their vehicles ransacked

The policemen were trying to enforce lockdown guidelines by warning locals about its violation but in spite of paying heed to the advice, the latter turned against the cops and launched physical assault.

New Delhi: In West Bengal’s South 24 Pargana’s Baruipur area, the policemen were attacked by the locals for doing their ‘lockdown duty’. The policemen were trying to enforce lockdown guidelines by warning locals about its violation but in spite of paying heed to the advice, the latter turned against the cops and launched physical assault.

Bengal police attacked

At least four policemen were injured in the attack.

The miscreants also ransacked the police vehicle. More contingent of the police was called in to control the situation. The police officials also resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd.

This is not the first such incident in TMC-ruled West Bengal.

Attack on policemen in Howrah, last month

In previous instances also, the police were attacked when they tried to implement lockdown and social distancing at market places.

Last month, open violation of lockdown norms happened in Howrah district and when police tried to reason with them for their own safety, they were attacked and pelted with stones.
