India-China face-off: Chinese media reports 5 PLA soldiers killed in clash

New Delhi: In the violent confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Galwan region, three Indian Army soldiers, including a Colonel, have been martyred.

Hand to hand combat, no bullets fired

According to reports five People’s Liberation Army soldiers were killed while 11 were injured during the clash. Face-off is said to have been hand-to-hand combat.

Indian Army in its statement said, “casualties suffered on both sides” in “violent face-off” during the de-escalation process with China in Galwan Valley, Ladakh.

The incident took place on Monday night. This is the first instance of casualty between the two sides since 1975.

Statement by Global Times

Amid the row over death of 5 PLS soldiers, Global Times issued a statement and said it cannot confirm the numbers. It said, “The official Global Times accounts have NEVER reported the exact casualties on the Chinese side.”

Major General level talks underway

Senior officials of Indian and Chinese Army are currently engaged in high-level talks to defuse tension at the border.

This comes after Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Saturday said that the entire situation along the borders with China is under control and the process of disengagement has started.

Earlier on June 6, Lt General Harinder Singh, the general officer commanding of Leh-based 14 Corps, and Commander of the Tibet Military District Maj Gen Liu Lin held a nearly seven-hour meeting, following which de-escalation process began on both sides.
